Are you having a problem with your power fold mirrors on your Freelander 1?
To re-sync the mirrors try pressing the power fold button twice.
You can try unplugging the main Freelander battery for 10 minutes to reset everything.
If you are getting a banging noise as they unfold and you have been told you need new mirrors, you may wish to try this fix (if you are a bit handy that is!):
1. Remove the internal door panel.
2. Unplug the two cables from the mirror sockets.
3. Remove the mirror – it consists of 3 x torx bolts and 1 x philips screw.
4. Pop out round disc cover from mirror housing.
5. Free the cables from the sealant and remove the mirror from the housing.
6. Mark the end cap of the mirror motor assembly to main body.
7. Remove the 4 x Torx screws from the end cover.
8. Remove the motor assembly from the housing.
9. Remove the motor from the end cap and you may find that one locating pin is sheared off, this could be what is causing your problem.
10. If this is your problem, remove sheared pin from locating hole.
11. Drill this hole out to 3mm.
12. Place the motor assembly back onto the end cover, location via the other locating pin, while holding in the correct position drill from the end plate side a 3mm hole into the motor steel cover. i.e. where the locating pin use to be.
13. Using a suitable self tapper screw secure the motor into position, screw from the end cap into the steel motor housing.
14. The screw must be virtually flush with the motor cover to ensure correct assembly.
15. Rebuild the mirror and refit.
Hi Sue, do the newer FL1 door mirrors fit on the pre-2000 model? Not necessarily powerfold but e.g. from a 2003 model. The ones on my 98 are dodgy and barely held together with tape but the original part is hard to find and/or expensive.
Hi Sam,
Yes, the newer mirrors will fit on the older models.
All the best,
Sue
