Many people do not realise they can operate their Freelander 1 tailgate window with the remote key fob. Press and hold the open button on the key fob and the tailgate window will come down. You can put it back up either using the button on the dashboard, or by inserting the key in the tailgate door handle and turning it clockwise until the window is fully up. Please note this is the only operation for the key in the tailgate door, this key DOES NOT open the door!
Help. When I try to open my freelander 1 tailgate once I’ve pressed unlock on the fob it won’t open. The window comes down 10 mm and I can here a click but the door won’t open
Thanks
Hi Paul,
Apologies for the delay in responding.
It sounds like an issue with the latch or the actuator. Unfortunately it will be a case of going into the back of the Freelander and trying to get enough access through the tailgate door card to connect up another latch/actuator enough to release the door – you should be able to disconect the wires and connect them to a replacement unit.
All the best,
Sue

thanks for this saved my day, my window was stuck open !!
Great to hear you have sorted it out Nogel.
All the best,

When travelling with the tailgate window down (by any amount) exhaust fumes are drawn back into the cabin. If you can not travel with the tailgate window down because of this what is the point of it? It baffle me what the idea is for this complicated, fault prone idea.
thanks
Simon
I’d imagine it’s so Landrover didn’t have to redesign the whole back door on the 3 door with removable back to suit the 5 door station wagon.
