Are you looking to purchase some used wheels for your Freelander 1? If so, make sure you get the correct ones.
The early models do not have an embossed number near the centre of the wheel and the later ones do – see the photographs above.
It does not matter what the number is, just having the embossed number tells you it is a later wheel.
The earlier, pre 2001 on Freelanders can use either wheel, whether it has an embossed number or not. The later Freelanders can only use the wheels which have an embossed number as they have larger hubs.
So if you are looking to replace your Freelander wheels check if yours have the embossed number on them, and if they do then make sure the ones you are buying do also.
Hi Sue,
Thanks for your post. Although I am a bit confused.
I have a 2005 Freelander Sport Edition with 235/50 R18 summer tyres.
I found on a car wreck a pretty good 15″ set from another 2005 Freelander with 195/80 R15 tyres. I am mostly interested in the rims since I would love to put a 215/75 R15 in order to get a spare set of winter/off road tyres.
The ones I found ar marked with the number you mentioned, my car 18″ wheels have no number.
That means the ones marked won’t fit, right?
However, is same production car, 2005.
Maybe the staff selling the wheels could be not telling the truth…
Thanks in advance and congrats for your content. High Value.
Salvador
Hi Salvador,
Not all of the later model wheels have the embossed number, particularly if they are non-standard. If the ones you found have the number embossed on them then they should be the correct wheels for your Freelander. If they are alloy wheels then they should have six spokes rather than five.
All the best,
Sue
i have a Y reg 2001 which wheels should i get?
Hi Philip,
What size rims do you have at the moment?
There is a great piece of research which has been done for selecting the type of tyre according to what is important to you. You can check it out in the “Light Truck/SUV Tires” section at https://www.tirerack.com/tires/reviews/MenuServlet?search=surveyComments.
All the best,
Sue
I have a v. Reg. Freelander 3 have numbers and 2 don’t. Will there be any problems.
Hi David,
Since yours is the early model both types of wheels will fit it fine. Even though you have a mix of the wheel types this should not cause you a problem. The earlier wheels do not fit the post 2001 models because the hubs for those models are larger.
All the best,
Sue
P.S. Sorry David, got myself confused in the posting, which may have caused you some confusion. I have corrected it now!
Will the wheels with numyers fit my 2002 T. D. 4. THANKS.
Hi David,
Yes, the wheels with numbers will fit your 2002 Freelander.
All the best,
Sue
i have wheels without numbers on my 11/2000 td4 but they were really tight on the drum so i put 10mm spacers on,my drums are the later drum?
Hi Kenneth,
If your drums are the later drums then you should have the wheels with an embossed number on them for them to fit correctly.
All the best,
Sue
