Hi Sue
I was sent here by other members of the landyzone forum I’m a member of.
Can you recon an engine which has an lpg conversion done on it? I have a 2001 petrol Freelander 1.
If necessary, I’m happy to redo all the lpg work.
I would bring the car to you rather than mess about removing, shipping and refitting it!
Thanks
Ian
Hi Ian,
Thank you for your enquiry.
Yes, we can recondition an engine which has an LPG conversion, but we do not deal with the LPG conversion itself, we just put it back as we find it. Is it the 1.8 model or the 2.5 V6 model?
All the best,
Sue

It’s the 2001 1.8 petrol. What would be the full cost if I brought the car to your workshop please?
Apologies again,
Ian
Hi Ian,
The total if you brought the Freelander to us would be £2,412.03 including VAT. That would include removal of the engine, reconditioning and refitting the engine, refilling oil and coolant.

Hi Sue,
For my Freelander 1 1.8K from ’99 (VIN 8YA520590) i’m looking for a replacement engine or a complete overhaul, as the original has the cilinder liners come out while working on it. I’ve seen info somewhere telling that from a later date Lister-Petter have produced the engines for LR. Are you aware of this? Do these engines have structural modifications or another design, that you know of? And do you know what the price is for these, if still available?
Hi Cor,
The main modification on the 1.8K Freelander engines is the fitting of the modified multi layer head gasket, as this is where the weakness lies. The cracking or sinking of the cylinder liners tends to occur through excessive overheating caused by a blown head gasket.
We recondition these engines and always fit the modified multi layer head gasket as well as fitting new cylinder liners. The price of our reconditioned 1.8 engines is £1,495 including VAT plus a £250 surcharge which is refunded on return of your old engine. If you also wanted us to remove your old engine and fit the reconditioned one we can do this for just £345 including VAT.
All the best,
Sue

I have a freelander 2005 td4 i need complete angine i need a price with rands figers
Hi Petrus,
Thank you for your enquiry.
A reconditioned engine for your Freelander TD4 is £1,787.50 including non-return surcharge (I assume you are in RSA, in which case it would not be viable to return your old engine).
Shipping to Johannesburg by air to the airport is £350, if you would like a price to a different airport please let me know.
All our prices are in UK£ and it is difficult for me to tell you exactly how much that would be in Rand as the exchange rate will be set by your bank. As an estimate, for the engine and shipping, it would be approximately 40,100 Rand.
We accept payment by credit card (tel: +44-780-9575-421), by bank transfer to:

Wow, how helpful you are ,how much would a rebuilt 2.0 litre td4 cost me for my freelander 1 ,thanks
Hi Andrew,
Thank you for your enquiry.
A rebuilt 2.0 Td4 engine is £1,895 including VAT. If you would like us to remove and refit the engine this is £695 including VAT, alternatively we can ship the engine. UK shipping is £70 each way, the engine is an exchange unit and requires the return of your old engine or a surcharge of £250. If you wanted it shipped to a different country please let me know and I will get you a shipping quote.
We recondition our engines to order and the process takes approximately 7 – 10 working days.

Sue

I have a 2005 Freelander 1 SE which has developed a fuelling problem which seems to be unsolvable by two of my local garages. It puts out black smoke when the engine hesitates and falters under stress (eg going uphills or accelerating) whilst making a castanette sound (rather like diesel engine knock).
I have had the fuel rail electric loom replaced, the four fuel injectors reconditioned thee times and it is still doing it. Th engine ticks over fine and is ok ununder about 30 to 40mph usuallybut after it gets hot the rattles and hesitation start.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
Martyn Harris
Hi Martyn,
The fuel rail electric loom which you replaced, was this the genuine Land Rover modified fuel rail loom which you installed? If so then the problem is likely to be the fuel rail pressure sensor. If it was not the modified wiring loom then try installing this first.

Sue

Hello. I seem to have similar problem with previous users.I own a 2001 freelander 1.8 petrol (not diesel). Three changes of cylinder gasket, still losing water. My engineer told me that we have to change the whole engine. Is this an acceptable solution? Can i run my own check? what is the cost in euros for a new engine in Greece? Can i not change specific parts?
Hello Ioannis,
It depends what the issue is. If the cylinder liners have dropped (i.e. are no longer protruding between 1 and 3 thou’ above the block) then you will need to change the engine (it is possible to machine the block but normally we would scrap these engines). If this is not the issue then you really need to determine what the issue is as you could replace the engine and still end up with the same problem.
A reconditioned 1.8 engine is £1,495 plus £250 surcharge (the surcharge is refundable if you return your old engine). Shipping to Greece is £195.

Sue

hi,could you tel me please witch engine is simmular with 1.8 freelander?i fixed the gasket head 3 times and still same problems
Hi Rene,
If you have fixed the head gasket three times and still have the same problem there is an underlying issue which you have not sorted. Did you check the level and condition of the cylinder liners when you replaced the head gasket? Did you flush the system out to ensure you have no blockages? What symptoms are you getting?
All the best,
Sue

Hi, I have a Freelander 1.8, and had the head gasket replaced twice this year. Now I still have water problems. I can not driver any where without filling the water container. I love my car, but it’s costing me huge amounts of money, please advise, Phil
Hi Phil,
That certainly is not right, two head gasket failures in one year. There are three things which could have happened here:
1. The head gasket replacement was not done correctly, for example was the cylinder head pressure tested and skimmed?
2. The cause of the head gasket failure has not been identified and rectified, and hence is causing subsequent head gaskets to also fail. Causing could include a blockage in the cooling system; issues with the reservoir bottle and / or cap; a cracked thermostat housing; a leaking water pump etc.
3. The problem may be deeper in the engine, it could be that the cylinder liners have cracked or dropped, was the protrusion of these checked when the head gasket was replaced? Do you get white smoke from the exhaust other than when you first start the Freelander in the mornings?
Where are you located?
All the best,
Sue

Hi Sue, the benefits of the frontmounted thermsostat seems
convincing. I would like to order
the required parts from you for delivery as soon as possible.
how do I proceed to an order?
Regards
roversverre
Hi Sue, time has come to put back the reconditioned 1.8 litre k petrol engine into my rover 75.
And so i recall your email of the 29th of august t.y. about repositioning the thermostat to the front of the engine.
Can you say anything more about the benefits of a frontmounted in hose thermostat. If your arguments are convincing, I would like to order all the parts required from you.
kind regards
roversverre
Hi Roversverre,
The original thermostat is positioned at the rear of the engine, and is very susceptible to heat from the engine itself. Hence they brought out the modified thermostat which is positioned at the front of the engine, away from the extreme engine temperatures. This improves the efficiency of the thermostat and makes it last longer. It is positioned in wider pipes at the front which means it gets a greater flow of coolant through it.
All the best,
Sue

Hi, I live in Norway and I am the owner of 3 Rover 75’s, two diesels which both runs problemfree, and one 1.8 petrol which have overheated twice.
Result: leak in the c.h. gasket, and crack in the cylinder head. Somebody told me that the overheating problem
have been solved on the freelander,
engine not only by using the multilayergasket and
the stronger oilrail, but also by using a bypass hose in the coolant system and another emostat. Could you please tell me if this is correct and eventually if this parts could be fitted
to the rover and delivered by you.i
I am looking forward to your answer.
kind regards
Roversverre
Hi Roversverre,
Yes, with the Freelander you can reposition the thermostat to the front of the engine and blank out the thermostat at the rear. This is also possible with the Rover 75, however they do not do a repositioning kit as they do with the Freelander, and when you add up all the parts required you are looking at in the region of £400. We can certainly supply these for you if required.
All the best,
Sue

Hallo
I need an engin for my Landrover LN 1.8/2001/1796/86,00/gas(bensin)/Manuel gir/K4FL.
Please, it would mean a lot if you could teel me where i can get one.
Pir Haven // Sweden
Hi Pir,
We can supply the engine and fit it for you in Sweden (we anticipate being there early June this year) for a total of £2,290 to include the engine, transportation and fitting.
We would require a space to carry out the engine exchange, if you have a domestic garage this will be fine, and an engine hoist (these are rather too large to bring with us along with all the other tooling and parts). Previously customers have been successful in borrowing an engine hoist to do the job.
We would generally complete the work within one day (although this is usually one long day!)
All the best,
Sue

hi
could you tell me where to get the oil rail cooler for my freelander? and anything else that would help with cooling!
2001 1.8gs
Hi Derek,
The modified oil rail can be purchased from a Land Rover dealer or we can supply one for £70 plus postage.
One of the most important modifications for the cooling system is the repositioned thermostat, your Freelander may already be fitted with this, it is an in-hose thermostat positioned at the front of the engine. If this modification has not been done already then it is well worth doing.
Are you having any issues with your Freelander cooling system?
All the best,
Sue
