Is your Freelander’s clutch giving you problems?
Do You Want to make sure you don’t end up stuck in the middle of nowhere with no clutch?
We Can Help!
Our clutch replacement for a Freelander 1.8 Petrol is just £475.
What is included in my Clutch Replacement?
The clutch system on your Freelander involves the clutch kit itself and the hydraulic master and slave cylinder.
It is not essential to replace both the clutch kit and the hydraulic system at the same time.
We can replace your clutch with a full kit for £475 incl. VAT.
We can replace your clutch master & slave hydraulics for £245 incl. VAT. We only use Genuine Land Rover hydraulics.
If you have both your clutch and your hydraulics replaced at the same time we can do this for just £695 incl. VAT.
Since we specialise in these vehicles who better to ensure that your clutch is operating perfectly? We have the specialist equipment and knowledge for the job.
Where are you?
We are based in Norfolk, postcode IP26 4RH.
If you don’t have a lift home after dropping your car with us, and are looking to use public transport, we can drop you / pick you up at the railway station – our closest is Brandon, however if you are coming through London there is a direct train line from Downham Market which is not too far either. If Thetford is more convenient for you this is also possible.
We are rather in the middle of nowhere, but if you do need to wait for your car there are some pleasant walks in the area.
If your car does not drive and you need to get it to us to fit your clutch why not try:
- Phoning your breakdown recovery service, if you have one. These will sometimes transport your car for free, or at a reduced rate.
- Giving us a call on 0780 9575 421 and we will arrange to transport your car to us for a cost of £1.80 per mile (calculated one way only to IP26 4RH). We can organise collection from anywhere in Europe (ferry crossings will be charged additionally where applicable).

Hi. When car get hot. It judders in 1st and reverse when trying to pull off. Changed lower engine mount. But still doing it. Any ideas. Rest gears feel ok. Can be tough to put in 1st and reverse sometimes.
03 facelift 1.8 petrol
Hi Steve,
Have you checked the rear differential mounts?
With regard to it being tough to get into 1st and reverse sometimes this could be an issue with the clutch hydraulics. If you do replace these then it is best to use genuine Land Rover hydraulics, we have never found the after market ones to be much good.
All the best,
Sue

Thanks for your reply. Car is 2wd atm. Would diff mounts still be a problem
Hi Steve,
No, diff mounts would not be the problem.
The issue is likely to be the clutch hydraulics and the rod going into the gearbox which could be seized.
All the best,
Sue
Ok. Thanks. How much would that cost me please
Hi Steve,
The worse of the two is if it is the rod, then it is a case of taking the gearbox or engine out, so you are looking around the £360 mark.

Sue

Hello. I’ve got a 1.8 K series. Once up to temperature, in low gears, when i pull away or accelerate i have a rattling/rumbling sound. The first time i experienced this the clutch seemed to slip but has not slipped since. Does this sound like the clutch on the way out?
Hi Andy,
If the noise appears to be coming from the gearbox check the gearbox engine mount for play.
All the best,
Sue
I have a 51 plate Freelander and the clutch is beginning to slip. It drives but over-revs in some gears after selection. Could you sort this out?
Hi Bev,
No problem at all, we can certainly sort it out for you. Which engine does your Freelander have, 1.8 petrol, 2.0 TD4 diesel or 2.5 V6 petrol?
All the best,
Sue

Hi there,
A bit of advice please. I went to start my freelander this morning, but when I went to put the clutch pedal down, it went down but I felt resistance and couldn’t put the car into gear. Usually the clutch pedal goes all the way down so that I can put the car into gear. Your advice would be appreciated.
All the Best
Neil
Hi Neil,
If you Freelander is a 1.8 petrol then it souls like the clutch hydraulics have snapped by the gearbox.
All the best,
Sue

Hi, and thanks for this great forum. ok, my problem is that when I put full clockwise lock on I get a clicking sort of noise from offside rear wheel area as its moving through the turn. when going straight or on a slight turn then no noise at all. Also when changing direction IE going from forward and moving off in reverse I get a matallic clink sort of sound initially as I move, same again just the once as I go in a forward movement again. I tried full lock in reverse and forward and there seems to be no drag as if brakes are on, but I have the noise as stated above. thanks for any help. Mac
Hi Mac,
If you received my previous message please ignore – I have deleted it from the site now but it may have been mailed to you – I was answering the wrong question!
This sounds very much as though it is your rear subframe. This can be a common problem with the Freelander and will require welding.

Sue

I have a Freelander 1.8 K series Petrol which I believe the clutch has gone. It makes a squeal while idling and this squeal changes when I try to engage a gear, which is difficult to do. Sometimes the pedal is on the floor other times there is pressure.
It has sat in my driveway since it happened.
Any advice would be gratefully received as I am in the Highlands of Scotland so its not so easy to pop down.
Hi Heather,
It sounds as though you need to replace both the clutch and the hydraulics if the pedal is on the floor at times. You could try just changing the hydraulics first as this is the easier job, however if you are struggling to change gear then it is likely the clutch is a problem too. To give you a price guide we would charge £500 to do both the clutch and the hydraulics.
All the best,
Sue
